The mining, collecting and cutting of Diamonds had its beginnings in India, where Diamonds were found in Alluvial deposits such as riverbeds. Diamonds were being traded in India as early as 1400BC- mostly by the elite upper class from India and Europe. By the 1700’s the Diamond supply in India started drying up. New sources were discovered in Brazil in the 1690’s when workers found diamonds while sifting for Gold in the Amazon River.
